Event Horizon 2014 Machinations.

Our calendars might tell us f a new year, but I can think of no better thing to do for 2015, but to do exactly what we've been doing in 2014... the "old" year. That is broadcasting the cutting edge of the audio medium 24/7 from artists all over the globe.

Beginning with the memories of overnight music on KNON FM in Dallas back in the 80's, and re-discovering the genre in the contemporary medium, we've taken quite a dive in to the deep end of modern music. Over the months since our launch, we've removed the more abrasive titles, artistic love aside, opting for ambient sound-scapes and more electronic artistry. Nothing is deadlier to a radio station, particularly one of the unique genre we fit, is listener fatigue. Entering the new year, it appears we are on the right track.

We've been complimented by you, the listener, on the quality of our sound. Thank you! The solution is made by a simple rule. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. Talk about listener fatigue. Some of these webcasters wash out their sound to the point where listening to their music is like listening to wall paper. If the release doesn't sound good to begin with, why bother programming it? EH is about the artist. Our sound is theirs.

Speaking of artists, every artist and piece we play is made available to the global public. If you hear something you like, do a simple web search for the artist. Many labels, here in the States and around the world, offer their music at no charge. One of the goals at EH is to bring to the collective global consciousness, an entire new world of music, free and open to explore, from every imaginable genre. If you complain that music today is awful, there is more out there. It's a new age.

Got featured on Streamfinder. That was pretty nice. Happily sporting the badge still!

Again, THANK YOU for tuning in. Listener stats continue to astound and delight everyone here who make this thing happen. The further we expand our on-air library, the more you listen and that is very encouraging.

Cheers!

Why Support True Internet Radio

When it comes to radio options, it may come as a surprise that a true terrestrial radio representative would openly and happily speak of the advantage of internet radio. It all comes down to one question first... What is internet radio, and why call some true internet radio and others differently?

Radio is radio. Electromagnetic signals manipulated for the transmission of information. Terrestrial radio stations are there for one main purpose, to serve the public. They are live broadcasts to the public at no charge. Music, talk, news and information... even theater. Radio brings people together to the same experience in real time. This is what a live broadcast is all about.

Now, when I say a true internet radio station, I mean the format, not the medium of true radio is implemented. It is free and there as a public service. Even paid extra terrestrial radio like Sirius/ XM is closer to true radio than say, Spotify... which is not internet radio, no matter what they say. That's called a jukebox. there is a huge difference in the spirit of radio and the spirit of the jukebox. Both honorable, but one is NOT radio by any means.

There is also a major difference in general internet broadcasting and true radio broadcasting. Terrestrial radio serves the community first. Advertisers, personalities, contests, and news all come from the local public. Weather, emergencies, local sports, transfer of information, to the masses is done on the local level. With this terrestrial radio can also include the national level in the programing and advertising level. And now with the internet, most radio stations in most major markets stream on-line, so the audience becomes global, all from a local level of programming. You can move and still keep up with your old radio station.

But when it comes to internet radio, there are a few good reasons to consider sites like SHOUTcast radio over other offers for your music experience.
  • Unlike Pandora and similar services, true internet radio is programmed by a human. Nothing programs a station better than a human.
  • Unlike Sirius/ XM, true internet radio is free, 24/7 as a public service. Often local advertisers will place their ads on an internet station, but even with those on a national or international level, the advertising on an internet station is likely to be minimal, often much less than the free version of Pandora
  • Although satellite radio and jukeboxes like Spotify have the upper hand in mobile radio right now, developments are underway to soon put SHOUTcast in cars. So, like your local radio stations, you will soon have 50,000 of free radio from all over the world in every genre... and did I mention SHOUTcast is a free service? With the apps that SHOUTcast can be found, that's pretty much already here... but soon accessibility and driver friendly versions will prevail.
You might ask about internet radio taking terrestrial radio's place. They said the same thing with television. They said the same thing about satellite radio. And Terrestrial stations continue to grow, serving the public. Internet radio merely carries on the same traditions that make radio great. They will and do depend on each other.

Now, you might have noticed a lot of cookie cutter stations in a conglomeration like I Heart Radio, which is fine, but one thing that cookie cutter stations are known for, is being incredibly boring. No local color. Making an online package of already cut stations that are found in every town across the land just makes cookie cutter "big box" radio easier to access, which is no less convenient than accessing SHOUTcast. It says nothing for taste or style of a town or region... or for that matter the individual when it comes to internet radio.

Support true Internet radio! Worth every penny you don't have to spend.

It's Official!

Event Horizon is now a 24/7 music station with an expanded library specifically designed for the adventurous listener. I must admit it was difficult as Radio Gold had some of our steadiest and most listened to shows. Perhaps one day we can re-integrate a place for state of the art radio dramas, however our focus will be on our new format. We sincerely hope you will stick around and continue tuning in for great adventures in sound and music!

Long Vacations

Many of you might have noticed programming changes and last minute updates as of late. This is actually good news on this end. I must admit, I've been extremely busy lately as my day job is one of true radio production. This with recent visits to family and my son being here for the summer, things have been hectic and Event Horizon has suffered some for it. Time to move on.

Theater of the Mind continues with The Falcon Banner and Murder under a Malathoin Moon and The Dead Girl series. Super Saturdays are still sci fi all day. although we've been unable to get Mad Jack LIVE lately, we're looking to get him back on EH as soon as possible.

Next week, listen in for part one of BrokenSea Audio's production of John Carpenter's Escape From New York! More great audio drama's to come! Thank you for tuning in and turning on to Event Horizon Internet Radio!

Sci-Fi Saturdays

Event Horizon goes full on science fiction every hour, every Saturday! Now playing:

Hour One - Edict Zero from Slipgate Nine, where the setting, is New Earth. An action packed science fiction gone espionage race to uncover an elite force that could threaten the peace and safety of the planet.

Hour Two - Elaine Barrett's Gaia's Voyages is probably one of the most unique sci-fi series of our time. A ship, conscious with life itself, on a mission to save the indigenous populations of other worlds. A grand canvas that paints a truly unexplored region of the infinite possibilities of the medium.

Hour Three - The Cleanse from FinalRune take us back to the not so distant future, where civilization as we know it is on the brink, and in flux. Martial law meets citizens with increasing indigestion. A well written and well produced series.

Hour Four - Tallington from the folks at We Are Not Alone, is a cross between Quantum Leap and Star Trek Voyager with a kick, takes us far in to humanity's future, while set in a time traveling mash up with the mid 20th century. Funny, smart, a great series.

Event Horizon Internet Radio is "ON AIR"!

There are thousands and thousands of internet radio stations that are little more than a glorified, automated playlist. When we began to set up Event Horizon, that was the very thing we wanted to avoid. Rather than overplaying the overplayed, we turned our direction to radio theater and audio drama for the not so average internet radio listener.

I've been a listener of Old Time Radio since I was a kid with Abbott and Costello and Amos and Andy and Superman. In recent years, some radio theater has been produced at a very high quality as well. Along with allowing one to be their own director of photography, it allows one to be free to work, play, or just lie back and listen. I always felt that the average user on line would be attracted to audio drama because it leaves the eyes, ears, and hands free to explore the web, while experiencing great stories at the same time.

In a world of digital visual oceans of material, Event Horizon Radio stands out, bringing to the world a unique and powerful form of story telling that is all too often overlooked in a post MTV generation. Top notch, quality, modern audio drama, mystery science fiction and so much more, Event Horizon is a unique radio experience available 24/7 world wide.
